Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Re: Rooster with Prolapse
UPSIDE DOWN, OMG, Well here's where I am now, I have been trying to get a hold of Peter most of the day, he gave me his number to call him so that he can explain how to tube water/feed, when I call the number it has been busy. So i did some research on how to do the tube feeding found a GREAT site with pictures and where and how to proceed.
So I went to Tractor supply got me a 60ml Syringe and a long plastic tube, Grabbed Romeo, CRIED, and said "I'M SOOOO SORRY, I'M SOOO SORRY". Then proceeded with stretching his neck, holding his mouth open and getting the tube down him. OMG, OMG, Praying the entire time that I didn't get it down the wrong tube....
BEFORE I did this I did prepare the water, I filled a bowl up with drinking water and put some Poultry Drench in it.
So I have the tube in it, I'm feeling around his crop to make sure it's far enough. THIS IS AWEFUL. THANK GOD this does not take much eye site because I could hardly see with the tears coming down my face. He just sat there with his eyes closed. First I thought OMG, I"M KILLING HIM. He's dead. but he wasn't. So I take the syringe and I get all 60ml of water in him. I have no clue how much water he should have because no one mentioned that part to me. So I figured 60ml was a good start. I set him down, well after I pulled the tube out of course, and he shakes his tail and poops, no normal poop it was still runny but not like clear watery that he has been doing. Of course I'm thinking DANG this work very quickly. LOL
Nope not quite..Then I picked him back up just to give him more torture, I started massaging his crop. WOW, it was large not as large as the night I found him with all that food but large enough. SO we squooshed, squooshed, squooshed, next thing I knew BOOM, hes throwing some of the water up. OH CRAP, I gave him too much. but I kept massaging. I can hear it squooshing around, I thought I even heard bubbles. So we get done and I set him down again, one good thing that came out of it is he didn't want anything to eat.LOL
So I waited about 1 hour felt his crop BOOM, all the water has emptied out, well not all of it about 90%, I can feel all the food in him again, so I did it again. Got the syringe and gave him another 60ml. THAT'S ALL IM DOING TONIGHT. Again, his crop got full, I massage threw up a little bit but not as bad as the first time. So now he's in bed, resting. I'm clearing my eyes and PRAYING TO GOD THAT HIS CROP IS EMPTIES IN THE MORNING. OH PLEASE OH PLEASE, I don't really care much for the Tube feeding thing. Although Romeo was an EXCELLENT sport about it, didn't fudge, didn't try to get away just sat there with his eyes closed. LOL. GOd I hope he gets better.
OH one more thing, when I pulled the tube out of him the first time, there was this slimmy, clear, almost like saliva stuff...
Now, here's my question, is 120ml going to be enough? Did my timing on doing it the second time correct?
Also, I noticed after the 1st hour the food inside of him, I swear i could squoosh it, it got very soft so I think we may be on the right track to getting this thing empty so that we can move onto the next procedure....
Thank you all for any and all advise..
