Once the feed is ground up and made it only keeps it nutrition and freshness for a certain amount of time. Kind of like bread.

I either use MFA, which is easy on the wallet and the chickens love it and do well. Or when I can't get there I mix in gamebird feed from the local elevator to make it stretch. There is a lot of gamebird raising going on around here so the feed is always fresh and good quality. Same can't be said for their chicken feed unfortunately. There's also a organic feed made by a company just 4 blocks from me but they only sell by the ton. Any clue how long a ton would stay good? If I could use it fast enough I'd go that route. It sounds like good quality stuff.
Sometimes it pays to call around to area elevators and feed dealers to see what they have.

Really enjoying learning from this group. I have been using Dumor (Purina) from TSC while I look for a new feed. Can anyone recommend a better brand? I live east of Houston, Texas so may have lots of options but don't know what to look for. The feed store the next town over from me carries Evans. We tried MG from nearest feed store but the chickens didn't like it. If I could hear what brands are better or worse, that would really help me. Thanks!
Blessings,
