"and there they were IN A NESTING BOX 18' off the ground!!!! How did that baby get UP there? I have no idea..but he was very happy with his momma in their box... so I left them..."

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Baby Chick Update
The new baby has been doing great... its amazing how much faster they mature (skills wise) than when they are brooded by human... with in a day it was jumping up into the nest box (6in) and now .. not even 3 weeks old yet and I got a big surprise when I went to lock up the coop last night...
we have two coops .. the main one and a 'broody coop' for broodies and sick bay. the momma and baby have been in the broody coop since she started setting ( as to not have to share her spot or get kicked off by pushy hens) ... during the day, both coops get let out to free range and every one goes back to their respective home at dusk...
Not last night... the broody coop was empty... concerned ... i went to the main coop... and there they were IN A NESTING BOX 18' off the ground!!!! How did that baby get UP there? I have no idea..but he was very happy with his momma in their box... so I left them...
We culled all the extra Roosters last weekend so its nice and peaceful in the coop now, so maybe momma just wanted to spend more time with the adults?
I am so amazed at how adaptable these babies are ...
