Deb and all,
Actually you were of help and I will just keep prodding along. I have set them up a shelter/coop over in their area with food, water and sometimes bread treats. I know they are using it some and am now at the point where I am going to start inching it back out in to the open. The other chickens don't hardly pay any attention to them, although they did when they first arrived and were in a steel cae for a few days. They haven't been around long enough to get names like all the others, so time will tell. Yesterday evening I was able to get a photo album started on my web site and if you or everyone were go to http://mcgillan.us, you would be able to view some pictures.

Hey Patrick~ I finally got around to this. I know what you are dealing with with these wild girls. My daughter Melissa and I call that "The fear gene" when we see it in our chickens. We have pretty much bred that fear gene out of our Modern games, but we see it in new chickens that we get from the hatchery. Sometimes you can 'reason' with these creatures, and sometimes you just flat out can't. That fear gene takes over and it's all over. We have tried so many things. Holding them, carrying them around all day, giving them treats, putting chamomile tea in their water...separating them so they don't frighten the other chickens...oh man. Sometimes we can make a little progress, but the minute you make a 'false move', like tripping or something, all your weeks of work is lost and they are completely wild again. The worst thing about these wild ones is that they do scare the other chickens and they tell the others to be very afraid of you too! If it doesn't bother you, I wouldn't worry about it and just let them work it out. For US, it does bother us since every chicken we have here is a dear sweet darling pet. We usually re-home our wild ones to homes that just want chickens for eggs.Sorry I wasn't more help!Deb
