Re: [CHICKENS-101] Broody Hen

Just keep removing her from the box whenever she is sitting in it and don't let any eggs accumulate there.

Hello -

One of my girls who is only about 6 months old, and has only been laying now for about a month appears to have gone broody!!

It may be my fault, as I had some decoy eggs in the boxes to train them where to lay and I never removed them. So, she was sitting on a couple of fake eggs (and one real one). Today, I picked her up out of the box, removed all the eggs (real and fake) from all the boxes, and put her out in the yard with her friends. She picked around the grass a little, drank some water, and then ran straight back to her box to sit... even though there now are not any eggs. I'm guessing she'll try to sit on whatever is laid by the other girls today....

What should I do?! We do have roosters so chances are that we'll have chicks if I let her sit. But, I'm not sure I really want that....

Thanks,

Katie
