Hey, I noticed the same thing a couple of months back when I finally let the adults out. The first few days, they didn't wander very far from their 8X16 covered pen area. Now they only go in to make their way to the ramp into the coop. Yes, they are just fun to sit and watch sometime. Free ranging in a 40X40 area now and they love it.

OK, so as you might remember, I have a completely covered pen area that is about 10' by 15' or so, the girls go out of the coop to this area and scratch and whatever, well, one of my girls had found a way out and would wander the garden but always trying to figure out how to get back in, I found the spot and fixed it, but my wife said I should let them all out during the day and let them 'free range'. so today I left to gate to the pen open and watched, funny, they came out and stayed within about 3' of the door. Later they got brave and wandered about eating whatever they wanted.
Well, I guess they had enough, they all went back in the pen area and are just hanging out.
Ah the life of a chicken.
:)
