I butchered all of my old layers yesterday. The ages on these chickens are unknown, we got most of them from friends, on craigslist etc. I butchered all the chickens that were older than last spring (when we started marking them to keep track of the ages). I was disturbed to find a HUGE tumor in one of the chickens. Her belly was a bit extended so I thought I would find an egg in there. The tumor was larger than my fist and hard spongy. Another of the girls had weird seed looking things in her, all connected to a spongy goo. And finally 2 of them had what looked like an egg in the track but it was in fact another rubbery mass. I cut one open and it was full of fluid. This is the first time I have butchered all the old hens ... so curious if this is normal.
