Re: [CHICKENS-101] Re: Growth Rates

This IS a group for helpiing those new to chickens AND those who have had chickens like myself that have questions.  That doesn't mean we have all the answers, but we do try to help.  If we can't satisfy you with an answer there are many other resources for you, ie., local agricultural colleges, specific breed sites you can google, area vets, feed stores, librarys, local poultry clubs, local breeders.  I don't know where you are located, but I live in a very small town and have found people near me that can not only answer my questions, but can sometimes show me the answer with some of their poultry as examples.  I frequently google a breed to see what the "normal" is for that breed.  Also there are lots of books that will help you out.  I keep a few handy.  I am assuming of course that you have access to a computer.  Please do keep asking questions of the group, but don't get upset if you don't get the exact answer you are looking for.  All of
us have different ways of dealing with out flocks and I have learned a lot from the group over the past few years.

Raising chickens is a fun activity and it is always good to know what you can do to have a healthy, growing flock.  Sometimes there are things going on with the flock that may not have a "for sure" answer.  I have Silkies of all sizes, some big, some small, some of mixed colors that aren't standard.  Are you raising yours to show or for pets?  That can make a difference.  One of my roosters was featured in August 20012 Southern Living as an example of the Silkie Breed but he isn't top show quality.  He is a beautiful backyard pet and fits the breed standards.

Please enjoy your flock.  It is not an exact science and you can over stress if not careful.  I have.   Cathryn is very knowledgeble and will even go out of her way to research a particular questions for someone to find an answer for them.  I believe her comment to you about answering your own question was actually a compliment to you, offering you encouragement about learning through your observations of your flock.   Good luck to you, enjoy your chickens.  Ask questions anytime and enjoy the group.

No I didn't answer my question nor did you. I'm trying to find what is normal and what I should do differently. If I knew the answer, I wouldn't have asked. I thought this was a group for helping those new to chickens. Perhaps a discussion of "normal" would be helpful to others in the group besides me.
