Kimmie, don't count on Momma hen being able to defend her babies. If she's an "Alpha" hen, or at least a high-ranking one, then maybe they will be OK. My daughter's chicken village hatches out chicks all the time and they all grow up together just fine. But I have several mean hens and several extreamily sweet hens in my village and if a low-ranking hen hatches out any chicks, the meaner ones will kill them. I've had that happen twice. It was horrible to find all the baby chicks in pieces, strewn all over the place. NOW I seperate the broody hen with her eggs and keep them in a safe place until the chicks are big enough to fend for themselves. Keep a close watch on your broody hen....when it's too late, it is totally too late.
Good luck!

What do I do with them, just put them in a seperate place is the only answer? I do have a rabbit hatch and wire dog crates but the babies can go through so I would have to put hardware cloth around that > Kimmie
