Re: [CHICKENS-101] keeping Chickens with Ducks

i keep my ducks and chickens together except the chicks but as they get older they all get put together. they will do fine i think as long as everything is kept clean and dry. i also feed them all together too.

Hi! I have two 2 month old Pekins. I have a 10x12x8(tall) fully enclosed pen, with a coop, a dog house for the ducks, a small cement-mixing pan for the ducks (on a gravel pad covered with straw).
I really want to add about 5 laying hens to our lives! What is your advice? Do the ducks need to be separate?
I was planning to keep the chicks in our house until they are feathered, introduce them to the ducks using the crate method. I am assuming (?) everyone will get along, so I'm wondering if the duck tub will be dangerous for the young hens? I know they eat differently, is it possible to feed everyone together? We have a larger pool for when we let the ducks into the yard to forage and swim, too.
I know there are lots of people who keep all kinds of species together, but I dont' want to "just wing it" ! (sorry--LOL!)
thank you for your advice!
Mary
