Re: [CHICKENS-101] broody hen thinks she's a goat

Judy, Your hen has companionship that is not based on a pecking order and is happy. Has to be too cute to watch!

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] broody hen thinks she's a goat

I have an Easter Egger that became broody. After removing her from
the coop and closing the coop off during the day for a couple of weeks she
was still broody, so I caught her and put her in the small moveable coop and
pen I keep in the yard for chicks. After a couple of weeks I put her back
in her normal pen and she seemed to be traumatized by the rooster and did
nothing but hide and cower. Feeling sorry for her I put her in the next pen
over with some spring born billy kids I am feeding out and she seems to have
picked one of them to be her best friend and now they are inseparable!
Wherever the billy goes the hen goes and hangs out either riding on his back
or wandering around his legs. When he lays down to sleep, she cuddles up to
him and also sleeps. When he eats out of the trough, she follows him and
jumps up to eat out of the trough next to him. She completely ignores the
other chickens. There are 3 billies in the pen and she only hangs with one
in particular. She seems to be the happiest I've ever seen her so I've
decided to let her live with the goats. Oh, and she's finally laying eggs
again.
