You can put non slip barn lime and wood ash mixed down. I'd go light on the wood ash. Then put your bedding over it. The lime will keep your barn floor dryer too.

Do you have a link to that water dish or a pic? I had a plastic waterer on raised bricks but they'd knock it over. Wet silkies are not a good thing. So now they have several crocks on bricks and they don't knock those over. I haven't seen any wet crests either. I just know that I'm going to need a better water system for them before summer because those crocks don't hold enough water for the heat.
I haven't been able to till anything in. The soil is so rocky there that I haven't been able to till in there. I rake the shavings and droppings out. Can I put lime down and shavings on top? Would that do? I haven't had much issue with parasites here so far knock on wood. The current coop has only been there for about a year and a half. So that may be why.
