Re: [CHICKENS-101] Raccoon??

Coons who are killing livestock along with other predators are NOT illegal to trap or dispatch.

My friends of choice when I'm out and about are combined in my S&W.38 tricked out with a crimson grip as a gift from my DH.  Of course I've got other, more potent guns here, ready, loaded and ready to go like a Binelli and an AK 47 but those would not be my weapons of choice for a chicken eating/killing varmint. There's also a  semi vintage Browning with the most beautiful gold inlay on the stock that is regularly used for deer hunting.  Plenty of 22's here also in many varieties.

A sawed off anything will not provide advantage unless you are a misinformed gang member shootin' gangsta' style - one handed cocked sideways that always misses anyway!  Buy the gun and  take a class (HIGHLY recommended) and get to the range DAILY for shooting practice.  This is NOT one of those things that's OK to do just since you saw it on TV.

Your best bet would be a shotgun loaded with bird shot with a decent scatter pattern.  Purchase your gun locally and ask what gun and load would be best for your needs. Don't forget that without target practice and just picking up any old gun that you could take out your chickens as well.

Reminds me of how NOT well trained Chicago Cops are when called for containing a wild cat in the city.  Ahh.  What's not to believe.  Innocent lives could have been ended when it "only" ended in a volley of gunfire taking out an air conditioning unit and putting a few holes in the siding and walls of a house.

The big question is who told her it was illegal to live trap them and do they really know what they are talking about? If that person was not from her state's (where does she live?) game comission/dept of natural resources, then I'd be very suspect of their advice. Predators killing livestock are generally fair game unless they are protected species like wolves, big cats, and raptors. Raccoons don't fit that category in any state that I know of.
