Hi everyone! I'm new to the group. I have a white silkie rooster (Clyde) and a white with a little bit of black sussex hen (Bonnie). I started to get eggs from her 2 weeks ago, and I got 5 eggs in a week! (YAY!!!!) But then nothing at all for a week. We made a new-ish coop for them since before all I had thrown together for them was a little lean-to thing, and I was wondering if moving them to a new coop is what has upset her egg-laying?
Next question: I've heard conflicting answers on this, but is it ok to eat her first eggs? I cracked the first few open since I wanted to see if they were fertilized (and I was told you're not supposed to eat the first few so to error on the side of caution, we didn't eat them) and they are! My son is getting a small incubator for a late Christmas present from his father and we would like to incubate them. But now she stopped laying! :(
