May I ask why you cut a comb?

Oh! Thank you for asking. They are doing okay. The cold is putting frostbite on their huge Combs. I got more information on what happened to them. The students took a trip to the farm where the farmer demonstrated beak clipping, comb cutting and wing banding. Because the chicks, after being demonstrated on, were considered contaminated at that point, the chicks were to be killed. That's when a student asked to save them.

The woman i've been working with, the mother of the student, says no mutilation was done to their eyes. Could their outrageously large combs have pulled so hard on their eyes that it caused a detached retina?

Some of the boys are settling. One is having a hard time. I will probably make a coop of his own with some hens we are rescuing this January. The more delicate roosters get special accommodations around here. I've got got a soft spot for them.
