I think they get 'programed'. Like everyone wanting to lay in the same nest box and won't go to a different one even though there may be a dozen available.

We finally had a decent day to "spring clean" the coop. This was 3 days go. In the process we moved the roost to the other side of the coop -- all of maybe 4 or 5 feet. Across from the roost is the little ones in their create. Our RIR's ( on the bottom of the pecking order in this group) have been sleeping on top of the create. I've even moved them on night and back they go to the create. Now don't worry, someone in the group said to be sure and cover the create which I have done -- so nothing is falling from the sky on the little girls.
Here is my question --are chickens that stubborn/inflexible that they can't or won't move to the new location of the roost?? We move the roost back this morning so guess we'll see who sleeps there tonight.
Thanks Rita
