My littlest, teeniest, serama pullet who is too small to be left in the serama cage with the tiniest cockerel, has been trained to live in a paper box with no lid. She is so small her eggs are half the size of a regular serama egg. Honestly, she is trained to keep her butt over her box if she perches. I have a self blue silkie cockerel that grew up in boxes too. (I get all the cross cut shredded paper at school and grab paper boxes everyday. Our custodial staff even drop it off in my classroom for me.) Self blue stays in his box and even helps me keep it clean by moving from side to side when I pick up his shredded paper and add more. When I give him a new box, he surveys it with satisfaction. He loves to sit and watch tv on a rag or paper towel on my lap or swing outside on the wood swing in my lap. No he does not have accidents but does wiggle around before he goes so I get him back to his box or in the grass on time. He even sticks his head over the side and up so I can be sure and rub it as I walk by. Teeny serama has decided she is in love... with self blue. She is even laying her eggs in his box. His crest is bigger than her body! I've been watching him for the last week. He's been studying her with fascination, unsure what to do. She is too tiny for him to be able to grab her comb and breed her, and he seems to realize this. I am going to have to move her to a regular bird cage for her own protection. It's been fun watching the genuine bonding between these two chickens. What is funny is she eats all his food and leaves hers. I had to move her dishes to his side and put their boxes side by side. She was flying to his box! It's so sweet to see this teeny pullet being protected and cared for by a full grown silkie. Cath
