RE: [CHICKENS-101] Re: Chicken Water'r

Jenny,

You made me think about this and I remembered my dh found the floating trough heaters that are safe for the not metal troughs.  I would be one of these would work in a five gallon bucket.

The probem I have with them is that they pull a lot of electricity and I prefer to use the heated buckets that pull a fraction.  We use the heated five gallon buckets in our barn and  for our larger dogs.

There is also a heated rabbit bottle waterer that would work, but they are not that big.  They would have to be filled daily since they are only about 16-20 ounces.

Speaking of freezing temps....any clever ideas out there for no-freeze AUTOMATIC chicken waterers?  I know about those plug-in waterers that keep the water from freezing, but what about an automatic waterer that is heated (they make these for horses, so I suppose I could use one of those, but they are rather large for chickens)?  I've been looking and I can't find anything....I dread the thought of changing/filling waterers all winter.  I am totally addicted to my automatic waterers and want them to work all year round!

Looking forward to hearing what others do....thanks!
