Just curious--any reason why no more than 10 birds (and thus 72" perch length limit)? 
 
I did originally have the three perches, each 6 feet long, and spaced as you noted.  The bottom perch has been used only as a step-up to the next one--no one stays there.  The 10-foot top perch seems to be helping--they all have room, with the top perch *always* full, the middle perch with a good 2 feet or so unoccupied--which is where I set the cockerel who wants a nest box, last night and tonight.  (And still no one on the bottom perch!)
 
Maybe they just enjoy seeing us scratch our heads...
