Hi Lori, I have dealt with a lot of strange people over the years but most were just uninformed and a bit dumb when it came to anything poultry or livestock. They also were not very well versed in their farm folk etiquitte.
I have had more than a few come to use my place as a zoo for their over active kids to roam around and scare the crap out of everything. If you raise things like guineas and La Fleche and some stranger makes a stupid noise you might see chickie for a few fleeting seconds and then you won't see a chickie or guinea again until they go to roost that night.
I had a man show too much interest in a Black show quality Cochin bantam hen and her 4 half grown chicks. He asked me how much I would take for them and I told him they weren't for sale as I was building my flock. The following morning I was missing a pair of the youngsters. Doesn't take rocket science to figure out where they went. That night I put a 55 gallon barrel in the doorway. In that barrel I placed a mean red tick coon hound that hated people with a passion. I let him have 20 foot of chain just in case something should open that door. In the morning the door was open, there was some clothing material on the ground, but not one bird was missing. I didn't get my birds back but I never lost any more in the same manner.
The best way to catch a thief is to use motion sensor cameras and then you have proof to convict. Dean

She's never showed up while I'm home as of yet and Saturday is already gone and passed.
He also told her to come in the evenings when I'm home. Never seen her yet.
I've heard people do this to scope you out before they start stealing what you have...
