What *is* this thing chickens have about styrofoam??? Mine seem to dig up every packing peanut or scrap of styrofoam cup that's ever blown away around the farm--let alone finding teeny holes to access any insulation.
Today, we got a new freezer. DH and I cut the box away under the close scrutiny of most of the flock--we, um, make that I, was very careful to pick up the foam corner protectors. We lifted one side at a time to get carry-straps under the freezer. The MOMENT we both lifted the freezer and moved if off the styrofoam on the bottom--POW, they all pounced on the foam! (I dropped my end and grabbed the foam before they got much...)
So far, no one seems to have suffered any ill-effects from the various bits they've found over past months... Idiots...

(P.S.--"Two-Tail-Feathers" had to be evicted from various nest boxes and set on the perch three times tonight!)
