<<I watched a news show on ragweed that said it has become so resistant to poisons and weed killers that the farmers are suffering badly. It is so bad it can break their combine machines in the fields because it grows so very large and tough and they are being forced to have their crops picked by hand instead of machines. It said that there wouldn't be a solution to the problem till at least 10 or 15 years from now. >>
I'm not sure what family ragweed belongs to, but with all the Genetically Engineered crops Monsanto and other companies are forcing on the unsuspecting public (while buying up and removing normal seeds from the market) there has been a huge increase in weeds that are super-resistant to herbicides. Part of it is that with the "Roundup-ready" type genetically engineered crops allow farmers to use huge amounts of herbicides, thus more exposure of weeds to them--and some crops also allow genetic drift into the weed population. So if the agri-engineering companies don't somehow get stopped (such as with the California Prop 37 requiring labeling of GE frankenfood) pulling weeds is about all that *will* work.
