Re: [CHICKENS-101] ]How many chickens in a 10x10 coop?? Now enrichment, also! :)

I'll put the alfalfa up on the roost in the main barn, covered with a tarp.  I took McDonald cups from the large lemon-aid with strawberry cups and put mouse bait in them for the feed room. (My husband buys the drink-shudder.)  I melted peanut butter in the microwave and mixed just a bit on mouse bait with a plastic fork in each cup.  I put them where the mice will find them.  I also use  plastic containers that angel food cakes and other products come in.
Cut 2 holes by the bottom, put the mouse bait w/ peanut butter inside, put the lid on, then put outside of the barn with a piece of wood or a small brick on the top.  I started getting after the mice early.   I save anything I can make into a mouse bait station that rain can't get into that I can throw away after the bait is gone.
Last time I put fly bait in pop, under the little barns, corn crib, and the tool shed, there were dead mice all over the yard and garden, plus a little opossum. There were no obvious mouse holes in those areas.  I have to lock my cat up to make sure she doesn't go near it, just in case.  Speaking of opossums, we caught two more last night.

Yes Catherine, my local feed store manager suggested the alfalfa. Do you have trouble with mice and rats possibly nesting in it? I'll keep mine in a shed near the coop. Haven't seen a mouse yet out there ( coop or shed ) but we've got mice in the house all year long. Always at least a couple and we're overrun with chipmunks outside. Come to think of it since Irene, haven't seen nearly as many chipmunks.
