Hi Sue, The point I was trying to make was with the Red Wing Black Bird poisonings that happened over the past 3 years and the news kept reporting that these birds were probably frightened from their perches in the night.
Supposedly when they flew from their roosting trees into the dark they became disoriented and flew straight up [which gave them hypothermia, yeah right] and they came crashing to the ground unable to move.
Then the picture that went with the story was showing men dressed in bio suits and heavy rubber gloves picking up dead birds on the highways and bagging them. That is why I went on a search for the truth and found that the USDA was poisoning wildlife at whim and not even informing the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
It is completely illegal to put out toxic baits for Wolves, Canada geese, Red wing Black birds, or even nusiance coyotes. They were poisioning at least a dozen other species, some of which are protected under CITES or supposedly have complete Federal protection. I would say they poisoned a lot more than just one Eagle
with their baits and secondary poisonings.
The issues with the Black Birds was that they were destroying fields of millet that were being grown in the Dakotas for aviary and house birds. You plant bird seed for parakeets and when it attracts other birds you poison them? Hmmmm.....? One farmer complained that they were deficating in his ground feed.[And USDA said this was the main reason for killing the Black Birds.] He should have been told to buy a cheap tarp and covered it up.
What ever happened to using the old style acetelene guns that made a huge exploding noise and worked extremely well at keeping the waterfowl out of the northern wheat fields till the seed was harvested? The link below is about the 5th I have read where a farmer was fined for improper use of a pesticide or intentional misuse to
poison wildlife. Dean

BTW...feral or non native birds/animals are not given the same protections from the state or the feds as native species.
Not a pleasant situation however, there are environmental issues for this. If anyone is interested in this subject, I'd be happy to convey what knowledge I have.
