Re: [CHICKENS-101] my week at a glance

Wow, you have been very busy. You made me tired...lol. I'm sorry you lost your silkie hen, I know it's devastating to loose one no matter how it happens. My mom got me a incubator with a fan and it's working great. I have 25 eggs due to hatch next sat. I just candled them and their all moving and growing right on schedule. I have an egg turner so that helps a bunch. It's a Little Giant 9200. I'll let the group know how my hatch goes. The last hatch which was on the 13 and I only had 5 hatch out of 9 but it was my fault. I unplugged the wrong cord thinking it was the cord to the turner on day 18 and chilled them severely. I don't think it was a bad hatch considering. Also I put them in an incubator with no fan and I accidently had the heat too high which caused curled toes and bleeding umbilical cords. I have never, ever raised chickens before or seen any hatch or anything like that so I consider my first hatch a trial run, ya know.. live and learn. I'm hopeful that all 25 hatch next week and all are healthy this time because I have fixed my problem.
Good luck on your incubator, I wish you all the best.

Thanks,

Michele in WV

Started 2 new pens w/coops / lost my silkie hen to a hawk - was able to save the 6 chicks she was raising / had another (3rd) incubator failure - have #4 and #5 in the building stage , this incubator thing is no longer important to me IT'S A FULL BLOWN OBSESSION i'm going to make one work . got 10 more cuckoo maranas- lost 1 now have 14 total -was able to start a dependable egg market 3 to 4 doz per week . sold 1 rooster and 3 hens to a neighabor . It's good to have a neighabor also with chickens so we can stand together in case of encroachment bt 'city folks' . oh teah worked a 40 hour week .
