If you feed wild birds, mealworms are a great idea, too.  Lots of bluebird people put out mealworms--in special feeders that the bluebirds learn to enter, so larger ones like blue jays won't hog them all!  Just about all songbirds will take them during nesting season, when they are feeding babies.
