This happened to me too last year with Ideal. It was due to weather conditions...some areas were having floods, hurricanes etc. and the postal service was delayed in their shipments which resulted in dead chicks.
Don't know what happened with you but they replaced my birds, including shipping, at no cost to me which was a very nice gesture and I'm sure, cost them plenty.
This situation can happen to any hatchery, can't control the weather or the postal service.
