I'd sort of figured that too... That it would be a whole lot easier on me to let a hen raise a brood each year, instead of me. Right now, our intent is to get barred rocks, figuring the most important characteristics for us are cold-hardy, calm, and good at foraging, as well as good layers (at least most of them) and dual purpose. Is it likely that I'd get a broody-prone one among, say, a dozen barred rock hens, or should I also get a couple of a particularly broody breed?
