Re: [CHICKENS-101] newbie with baby chicks

I was answering another post and went thru the checklist for them for her.
My chicks are fine except for the chicks I got from a hatchery that put the heat pads where the chicks had to stand on them, instead of on the side of their box.  Cooked their little feet leathery thin and made their little bodies thin and like jello in skin. Every single one of them died. I couldn't save them no matter what I did. I emailed Gary Broadwater because he uses the pads and he said he puts them on the side of the boxes. My chicks must have really suffered for the two days it took for them to get to me. :(  Cathryn

Where did you get them? Were they really having stool issues? Could be
coccidios, a form of parasite. We just had a discussion on cocci, you may
have missed it being a newbie. Go to the feed store and pick up some
medication. I believed I used tetracycline when I had a order of babies
shipped to me from out of state. Lost 4 before they started getting better.
But others on this list had better recommendations for meds. Hopefully they
will answer again.
