I have to disagree with this statement "A cat will only hunt if it's mother taught it to hunt."
I raised a litter of kittens last year from approximately 10 days old. Yes they were barn kittens but their mom died and I sure didn't teach them to hunt. I kept 2 of the 4 and they both hunt. Granted the girl stays inside so small mice is all she goes for but the male has killed mice, moles, squirrels, birds (but no chicks or chickens), and at this rate I fully expect to see rabbits on my steps in the near future. I only have one other cat older then them and she's only about 6mos older. I think it's instinct.
