Re: [CHICKENS-101] Broody Lilly

I went out to check this morning.  Found Lily nearby and another hen laying in the nest.  I got home from church.  No hen on the nest, Lilly nearby (probably because I was about to feed them) and 5 different eggs in the nest!  No sign of the 5 eggs I marked last night.  I know Lilly was broody as its the only time she'll let me hold her - she complained loudly as I marked the eggs last night.  This has got to be a record for her - less than a day.  Maybe I'll find her sitting on eggs again.  We had an extremely rare late March snowfall - just a dusting and though the nest is on the floor of the shed where they roost, maybe something went after her and the eggs last night.  Next time I will lock her in a small cage.

Debbie, why don't you put her in a crate with her eggs, then maybe she will have better luck. It's more work for you but you may get nice chicks that way.
