Bootlegger's used to feed their leftover sourmash to the pigs & chickens; they weren't going to waste grain by tossing it in the trashpile.....

As a teen (many years ago), I used to make homemade wine; when I'd skim the top on the "makings" from a batch; I'd skim it into my dog's dish; my beagle loved it; he'd walk around stoned on his butt, staggering & growling at nothing. It was a hoot....
