When I wanted chickens I was told to buy more than I planned to because some die the first year so I got 6, I didn't lose one now I am stuck with all these chickens, I have 5 since one was a he and I can't have a he in my area.
I am very happy none died though. Chickens are very social and would probably die of loneliness if alone, that is what i was told by some big time chicken people.

So you can raise an only chick? I was advised not to - was told they'd drive me nuts (i'm already insane, so...). NOT that I'm getting anymore babies soon, but I would love silkies and seramas!
