Re: [CHICKENS-101] Eggs!

Oh, Sheryl, don't count on being able to stop at just 2 pens.  Well, mine are not that large, I got the 5X10 ones.  There are now FIVE 5X10 pens and 2 more 5X5 ones.  It's hard to stop.  There are 3 without any chickens in them at the moment.

I've actually run out of space under the trees and am now putting up pens mostly in the sun.  Which means I'll have to plant a hybrid poplar or other fast growing tree to get shade by next summer.

So watch out, this 'pen' stuff is addicting.  Almost like chickens!   Can another pen be hooked to the one you already have?  My 5X10 pens have 6 panels, each the same size, one having a gate in it.  To have a 2nd pen I only have to add 3 panels and another gate.  Right now I've got 2 unused panels and am short a gate.  If I get 1 more panel and 3 gates, I'll have 9 pens.  I'll be the queen of chicken pens.

Your egg is very cute.  A really 'sweet' egg.     If you blow it out you can save the shell.  I didn't say that in time to save my own first egg.  DH ate it and I cried.  Ok, I yelled too.

We'll try this again.  :-)  Yahoo is losing messages and it doesn't look my original post about our first egg will ever show up.  Lol.  If it does...just delete it.

We had our first, little, white egg a few days ago.  The only hens we have that lay white eggs are the Leghorns.  We have a total of 3 now.  I'm including a pic of our first one below.  The first egg was pretty stained up and I cleaned it up according to directions I found on the net but the stain won't go away.  What do you all do to clean your eggs?

DH bought one of those 10x10x6 dog pens from TSC Saturday and by Sunday, the girls had their new outdoor yard.  They are ecstatic!  The weeds were as tall as we are but now they're almost gone!  So, we've already figured out we need to buy at least one more pen if not 2 to make their yard bigger.

We have 19 hens and it won't take them very long to decimate the foliage.  They sure are happy though.  They won't go back in the coop until it's practically dark.  Lol.
