I guess since Yahoo lost the first post, they decided to send the second one through twice. Lol. Planting the trees is a good idea. We'll have to look into that. There are plenty of Chinese Tallow trees nearby that lend some shade.
I've actually run out of space under the trees and am now putting up pens mostly in the sun. Which means I'll have to plant a hybrid poplar or other fast growing tree to get shade by next summer.
Ours has 4 panels of equal size with one gate. DH used 3 panels and one side of the coop for the walls and put one panel on top for part of the cover. That left a small area to be covered with chicken wire. He could pretty easily hook another one or two pens onto the first one. This sure is easier than digging post holes and making fences.
So watch out, this 'pen' stuff is addicting. Almost like chickens! Can another pen be hooked to the one you already have?
After seeing how quickly they eat the vegetation, I wish we could free-range them during the day but I'd worry too much about something getting them or them making it to the highway. Their coop is by a one acre pond that we frequently see large birds taking fish from. Those big birds might think they'd like a chicken snack. Our girls get locked up in the coop at night. Oh dear...that sounded a little risque` didn't it. Lol.
I thought about saving the shell.
Your egg is very cute. A really 'sweet' egg.If you blow it out you can save the shell. I didn't say that in time to save my own first egg. DH ate it and I cried. Ok, I yelled too.
