Re: [CHICKENS-101] Chicken involuntary head twitches?

Thank you for the quick response. We were lucky to have a vet nearby who had someone familiar with chickens in today.

He confirmed it was a case of sour crop and with a test found it was bacterial in origin. A shot and some antibiotics were prescribed. $212 for visit, rapid test, and meds. Worth it for the experience to us newbies.

Probiotics were suggested and based on our research we had already begun feeding her some of my home made kefir.

He said it could be 4 days or more until the large crop subsides.

You need to get her crop unblocked. She is a very sick chicken. I would give her olive or soy bean oil, massage her crop, several times a day and see if you can get it working.

Since your chicken is displaying signs of illness from her crop, time is not on your side. Your hen will need a vet script for sour crop or contact chickendr@firststatevetsupply.com or the website firststatevetsupply.com for advice and medications.
