There are tags on the bags that tell either the day of the year and year it was made. EX: 1352012 means the 135th day of 2012 - about the middle of May 2012, or they'll have a date like 08232012 or 23082012. It varies with each company and can be on the tag or on the paper that is sewn on the seam of the bag. If you can't read the date or find it, ask the seller to call the company if they do not know or you call them. You do not want to buy feed more than a few weeks old, at the max 4 weeks, especially summer/hot and/or humid weather made feed. Once grains are ground or cracked they mold easily. The feed companies will tell you that feed is good for up to 4 months. Maybe to fill the chickens up, but it won't have the nutrients because they break down with time, heat, and humidity. Plus the feed can mold/aflatoxins which will poison your chickens.

How do you know how old the feed is when you buy it?
