Re: [CHICKENS-101] FDA ties salmonella-contaminated chicken feed to egg recall

They stated that the feed could have been contaminated by the hens spreading it to the feed. Dead birds, feathers, offal, parts not used for meat, et.. are ground up, dried, and used in feed. They call it poultry by products. One well known, large, poultry feed company that I avoid all their feeds like the plague was caught using ground up feathers for their protien in poultry feed. Did you read where they are using feathers to make plastic? When the machinery is brought in to process the meat birds and spent layers, all parts of the birds and carcasses are used. Cathryn
Surely you're not saying the feed has things like - oh I don't know...., maybe chicken carcasses from the same operation or the neighbor's operation in it? Surely not! Or..., could it be true? Such a shocking notion! :-o
