[CHICKENS-101] BARF.........including chicken!

I have recently switched four of our 9 dogs to BARF. Two Great Pyrenees and two Anatolian Shepherds.  I am hoping to switch the other five in the near future.  First I have to figure out if we can afford it!

They are loving it.  I am thankful they haven’t figured out the relationship between chicken necks and backs with the feathered friends that visit them in the barn.  Also, there is no sniffing and walking away from their meals.  They eat it QUICKLY!

I am thrilled to say my dh put a utility sink in the barn for me and we are ordering the cutest little tankless hot water heater that runs on propane, so I will have hot water in the barn.  Yeehaw!!  I was happy to have the sink to wash dishes in…..feed dishes of course.

My dog’s favorites are the whole buffalo knuckes!  They have a good amount of meat and cartilage and the dogs chew on them ALL DAY.

Friends have been telling me for years to switch…….found a local group of people that order large quantities at a time for Oma’s Pride and one of the women coordinates the orders…..this month the order was fro 3500 pounds!  A little over 500 lbs was mine.  ACK!  We’ll see how long that lasts.

It makes sense – takes more time and is not pretty or real convenient, but it is rewarding to see them want their dinner, have shiny white teeth and a lot less poop!

These are all reasons why we refuse to feed our dog commercial dog food (we could never get him to eat it anyway, not even the best or most expensive brands!).

He eats the way a dog should eat . . . there's no kibble, refrigerator, or microwaves out in the wild. "Dog food" is a relatively new invention. Its only been around maybe 30-40 years. What do you suppose dogs ate before kibble was invented?

With all the contaminants, foreign objects and toxins rendered into our pet food, its no wonder they have so many illnesses and such an array of veterinary specialties these days.

Ours eats a biologically appropriate diet of raw meat, bones (uncooked- cooked bones are dangerous), offals, ripe to rotting fruit, small amounts of veg matter (akin to what they would normally find in the gut of their prey). And dogs aren't meant to eat grain, which sadly is quite often a main ingredient is commercially prepared products and is at the root of many health problems for them.

Never thought I would be feeding a dog this way, after previously having feed commercial, but I tell you, it is the best thing we ever did. (You can google BARF diet for more information).
