It was a great experience. My Atlanta Backyard Poultry Group held our 2nd annual Chicks for Charity event at a small farmers market in Decatur, GA from 9-1 yesterday. The Chicken Whisperer show took place on sight and we gave away, yes GAVE, over 750 baby chicks to families from the Atlanta area. The chicks were donated by several hatcheries and vacanitated for Mareks. The donations we accepted at the event went to a local after school care facility. The families were taught about taking care of chickens, had the opportunity to purchase what they needed for the chicks from local vendors that attended, purchase feed, look at and/or purchace locally made chick tractors and then received 5 chicks of mixed breeds FREE. These people were so excited to learn about and receive the chicks. Especially the children who learned along with the parents. The police officer at the event even got some fo! r his kids.
This is a great group of people who share ideas, poultry tips, buy, sell and trade among each other and generally help each other and the communities with poultry. If you want to see the pics you can go to the site at yahoo and see what we do. You can join us if you choose. Susan in Conyers
