Could you possibly get your hands on some straw and make a new home for them for the time that's enclosed by straw bails with a little bit of an opening? I would think that would be warmer than plastic. This is our first winter with chickens, and we haven't tried to go and get more straw yet for ours. Our hen house is surrounded by bails which will stay there till spring, and we also put straw bedding inside. We obviously don't need a house of straw, but we will need to think about the bedding when it runs out. I imagine straw will be hard to obtain being it, of course, doesn't grow in the winter -- at least not in our climates, but it still may be possible to obtain. I don't know. It's just an idea.
