If I may piggyback on your piggyback…
I'm also pretty new to the group. I joined a few months ago to research before owning too. I really appreciated the recent post about what was in the variety pack from Murray McMurray, just so we can make an informed decision when we're able to have chickens. And the many other issues others have shared have been very interesting. Right now we're trying to sell our house and move to a more rural area. I'm in Nevada but will be relocating to the Chino Valley area of Arizona.

Thought I'd piggyback on this too...
I'm new here too (thank you Deb and Gina for suggesting the group)...
Although owning chickens will be some time down the pike, I thought I'd start doing some research on care and types. I too would be interested in good egg layers, but birds that would be friendly and easy for a newbie to keep as well as hardy.
I'm also in CT...
