Marla,
I've never had RIRs or Orps so I would like to ask why you prefer
the buff Orps over the RIRs. Is it because of personality? Need for care?

Oh no offense here. If I had a small space with only room for a few layers I
wouldn't have them. I love their personalities though and I have plenty of
room. We have some breeds that are show birds and some that are layers here.
They're kept in separate pens/coops. I grew up with Sumatras and always
loved them. When my middle dd asked for some 2 years ago I jumped at it,
glad to have someone else who likes what I do. My dh likes RIRs, but he
doesn't feed them or gather eggs so we have buff orps instead. Lol
