Hi,
I bought Ameracauna chicks this spring. I have a beautiful black rooster, a black hen and a blue hen. They have just started laying and their eggs are brown. I am so disappointed as I was looking forward to blue or green.
I emailed the breeder and she is sure that they are Ameracaunas as she has no other bantams with muffs.
From what I read the color is one of the last things that happens before an egg is laid. These chickens are well feed and free range so I can't imagine that it could be diet related. Any ideas why I'm not getting colored eggs?
