[CHICKENS-101] Re: Chicks 101

Dr. Doug,
sometimes chicks will form a "plug" of poop, which will cause them to
not be able to poop, and then they get sick and die from not being able
to eliminate. Keep an eye on their backsides to see if they are still
forming plugs or not. Soaking them off is a gentle way of removing the
poop. Grind up dry oatmeal to mix in with their food, and their poop
will be more solid and less able to stick to feathers around the vent.
And if they have had it badly in the past, you also have to keep an eye
on adult chickens, so that they won't have the poop plugs and get sick.
I lost an adult hen to this some years ago, so I learned the hard way.
