[CHICKENS-101] Re: Chicken coops

As an old New England Yankee, we squeeze the nickle so hard the buffalo has to sit down, I would say "you get what you pay for". Metal sheds in my opinion do not last forever. They are difficult to heat in the winter and keep cool in the summer. They tend to sweat a condition causing the bolts to rust. Plastic has a problem in extreme cold weather, no matter what they say. Now remember I am from that part of the country that invented "humid". Right now it's snowing at 30 deg F and the humidity is 86%. We have had Temperature in the sub 0 range with winds 60 MPH or more in hurricanes or nor'easters. {Jane, that's near 100K) Most prefabricated sheds don't last very long in these conditions. Almost as bad as Wisconsin. LOL. Insulating is a problem in that chickens love the board type insulation. They eat it and according to some that leads to plastic foam eggs.
Having said all that I know we do what we can. Sometimes we have to put up with things that are less than perfect. So if it's a mater of having chickens or not go for it.
