Re: [CHICKENS-101]: Question on candling

I don't know the answer, but I have some eggs under a serama and would like to know the answer also.  Yesterday there were five eggs under her and today there are 6.  Five have been there for 2 weeks and I don't know where the 6th one came from today.  Susan in Conyers.

Subject: [CHICKENS-101]: Question on candling

OK, I am going to break down and ask. I have had 6 silkies hatch, 4 imprinted so am tickled pink, but there is one egg left that I cannot figure out. It has bout 1/4 somewhat opaque, rest dark, I can see blood vessel's and was determined I was going to figure it out tonight...all rest hatched on or before Sat last week. But this last one, IMO has larger air spot in it...I did not want to take it if it had any life in it so while candling I gently tapped it with me fingernail and 'dark area' moved....what are the opinions on if this is a live chick just week or so behind the rest, (all came from three diff hens who went broody week apart between each), or the inside 'matter' just moved when I tapped shell.... I am lost and DO NOT want to kill a chick that has a chance and is just behind.......
Any suggestions would be appreciated...
Thanks!
  Erin
