Re: [CHICKENS-101] Egg coloring?

I don't think so -- the gold pigments in marigold petals get processed differently by the chicken's body than food coloring would.  I think the stuff in marigold petals is carotenoids, the same stuff that makes carrots orange.  If a person eats a lot of carrots, they can actually get a yellow color to their skin.  But you can drink all the blue food coloring you want and it will never turn you blue.  Food coloring is water soluble and gets broken down by the body, whereas carotenoids are fat soluble and don't get broken down and excreted the same way.  (Biologists/nutritionists feel free to correct me if I got that wrong!)

Someone said If I want bright orange yolks to add Marigolds.
So I am wondering, Can I add food color to the chickens drinking water
and instead of getting egg whites, I get egg reds, egg blues, egg pinks,
etc?
Has anyone tried this?
