Re: [CHICKENS-101] Egg Care Question

If mine are super dirty I scrub them and use them right away. If they look clean, I don't wash. If they're dusty or a bit dirty, I wash them gently in warm running water and let them air dry.

Subject: [CHICKENS-101] Egg Care Question

Ok, my chickens and ducks are not laying yet. So we are still buying our eggs from a local farmer.

I have read and seen a bit of discussion on the washing of eggs after they have been laid. I do not remember my grandmother ever washing our eggs unless they were really dirty.

The lady I just got our eggs from had a coffee can full of them sitting in the sink full of water soaking. I thought they were not suppose to be left in water for very long.

So what is the deal? Washed or not washed and if washed, How? I am not going to be selling any of my eggs at this point, they would be just for our private use.
