Hey everybody. Im new to chickens 101 (as of 2 mins ago) and have some question about by broody hen. As far as experience goes w/ chickens im a novice, but have read a ton of stuff on pretty much everything. But i cant find an answer to my specific q's. I have roughly 33 hens, 25 of which are just 10 months. one of these younger hens (a buff orpinton) was hogging the nest for 2+ weeks and i couldnt break her broodiness. i dont have a roo, but my neighbor has 1 roo and 4 hens. She gave me a dozen fertilized eggs to put under my broody, and she is going on day four. I have been watching closely to monitor any eating/drinking pooping, and she did none of the above for 3 days. so i lifted her off the nest to find that she had pooped on the nest, but had missed all the eggs. No way she can go 17 more days without food or water, and i havent a clue how to make her eat or drink. should i be taking her off the nest as one article suggested, or should i trust her instincts also her c
omb is somewhat pale. any suggestions. thanks.
